FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

First Time in Counselling? Here’s What You Need to Know

You’ve made the first step by being here. If you are considering counselling for the first time I understand that this can be daunting. I want to reassure you that I often work with clients who are new to counselling. I hope to put you at ease from our initial chat, where we will discuss why you are looking for counselling and what you’re needs are. From there I will ensure that I support you through the process, offering you a safe and empathetic space to explore your issues, thoughts and needs.

We will meet in person or online, for 50 minutes and I will listen empathetically and without judgment. Allowing you to set the pace and share what you’re comfortable with. My goal is to help you to feel at ease within nurturing surroundings. Enabling you to feel supported in your journey, however that might look.

What to Expect in Your First Counselling Session?

In your first session, you can expect a warm and welcoming environment where we will explore your concerns and reasons for seeking counselling. The session will focus on you and what brings you to this place. Building a relationship, at your pace, allowing you to share your thoughts and feelings openly. The session will either take place from my practice or online. Both neutral spaces for self-exploration, to discuss your needs and begin to identify the issues you want to address. Setting the foundation for your therapeutic journey.

Worried About Opening Up? Feeling Nervous about starting?

Something has brought you here. I understand just how hard it can feel to think about opening up and talking. Especially if it is something you haven’t talked about before. Counselling is confidential. We’ll take things step by step, ensuring you are comfortable in how the session is feeling for you. You control the pace and depth of how we work together. I work with you to ensure you feel supported and that you can share freely as you feel ready.

What’s Your Availability and When Can I Start?

Once you’ve come this far I understand how important it is to get started and gain support. To check my availability and potentially schedule your first session, then please contact me via email or via the contact me link. I offer flexible appointment times, including some evenings and Saturday mornings. Once you reach out, we will have an initial conversation and aim to schedule your first session within a week. I’m here to help you start your counselling journey as soon as you are ready.
